Highwood Current's pre-competitive Swim Academy is 3 level skill and technique based program that will take your little fish from a bubble-blower to a confident swimmer. Swim Academy provides small swimmer-to-coach ratios, consistent coaching and feedback, and lots of active time in the water! 

NEW for 2023-24: Swim Alberta's "I Can Swim" program will be offered within our Swim Academy framework.

Swim Academy and the "I Can Swim" curriculum develops strong swimmers, ready to enter our competitive stream. Swimmers focus on the FUNdamentals of all 4 swimming strokes, working on technique, efficiency and endurance. They are also introduced to fun "fast" swimming, flip turns, dolphin kick and relays (team work!).

Our Fall & Winter semesters will each include a Skills & Thrills day, where our Swim Academy swimmers will get to show of all that they have learned in an exciting and fun "mini-competition" (scaled to match their skill level).   

 

Important note: Swimmers are ready for our Swim Academy 1 program if they are able to float on front & back unassisted, are comfortable submerging, and are confident in the water without a parent on deck. Not there yet? Swimming lessons through the Town of High River are a great place to start. 

 

Placement in Swim Academy will be based on a combination of skill level and age. Please see our "What Program Should I Register For" page for more information.

Registration fees include: 

  • Annual Swimming Canada registration ($31.25) - non-refundable, charged with your swimmer's first registration of the season*
  • Swim Cap
  • Team shirt (one per year)

* Swimmers who have been previously registered in the Fall 2023 or Winter 2024 session will receive a discount credit of $31.25 (Swimming Canada fee)

Multi-Swimmer Fee Discount:

1st Swimmer - Full Membership fee

2nd Swimmer - 10% credit on lesser or equal Membership fee, applied as a credit to your membership account following registration.

3nd+ Swimmer - 20% credit on lesser or equal Membership fees, applied as a credit to your membership account following registration.
